Welcome back / New homework set up

Welcome back everyone. Didn't the holidays just seem to fly by?

We have a lot of exciting things happening this term. We will be looking at Perth's waterways as part of our new theme, as well as the Olympic Games whilst they are on. If you have any resources you think our class might find useful please send them along with your son for us to have a look at.

Homework will be slightly different this term. We are no longer focusing on times tables and are moving instead into doing more writing. Our mental maths books will also be used in the classroom and Mathletics will be set as homework so boys are continuing to work on similar topics as we are in class. The homework routine will be as follows:

Maths - 2-4 Mathletics set tasks / worksheet
Reading - 5 times a week
Spelling - Complete spelling handout activities and spelling game.
*Extra spelling practice will always be beneficial.
Writing - Allocated worksheet or activity for the week.

As this is Week 1 boys will get a head start for next week's homework. We are looking at all four operations in Mathletics, the writing task is based on alphabetical order and we are looking at the spelling pattern for m/mm/mb.

Some boys still haven't completed their overdue Mathletics from last week and have been asked to have them all done by Friday.

On another note, there is a boy in our classroom who continues to put his lunch in other students' bags. It seems to always be a sandwich, but the topping aren't always the same. Today it was a ham sandwich. We have had a big discussion as a class about the importance of eating a healthy lunch, but if you could speak to your child if you know they had a ham sandwich today we would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you again for all your support with our class and let's kick off to a great start in Term 3.

NAIDOC incursion

All boys attend a special NAIDOC week incursion today to learn about Perth's indigenous heritage. We saw different musical instruments, weapons, dances and ways of playing the didgeridoo. NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. All boys seemed very engaged in the presentation.

You may like to ask your child to tell you about it tonight.

Class news reports for Friday

In class we have been researching an earthquake disaster of our choice in small groups. We will be preparing news report presentations for Friday to perform in front of the class to tie our Geography unit together (Science).

Some boys have missed several research sessions due to music practice or lessons. Today we had a double period for boys to finish off their area of research. Some boys once again missed this session so they are bringing their work home tonight to finish in order to write their scripts tomorrow.

We will hopefully be filming the news reports so boys are able to get a copy for their learning journeys next term.

*We always keep a note of resources we use for our bibliographies and we never use wikis as they are not always a reliable reference.

Congratulations Haris

A special mention must go to Haris who came second in the cross country last week and qualified for interschool. Unfortunately he will be away, but it is still a huge achievement. Well done Haris!
